Team Training

Plan a practical group session for workshop staff, supervisors or owner-operators who need hands-on laser welding training. We help teams in Boksburg and across South Africa build safe working habits, set up starter kits and follow clear welding steps.

Book a Group Session That Fits Your Workshop

Team Training is set up for workshops that need more than a one person lesson. We plan a practical session around your staff mix, your jobs and the type of material you work with, whether that is light fabrication, repair work or general production support.

Sessions can be arranged for teams in Boksburg, Johannesburg, Pretoria, Durban, Cape Town, Polokwane and other parts of Gauteng and South Africa. We keep the format straightforward so workshop staff can learn the process, ask questions and repeat the work without confusion.

  • For owner-operators who want a clear starting point
  • For supervisors who need to guide a team on the floor
  • For staff who will use the machine on a daily basis

What We Cover in a Team Training Visit

Every group session is practical and focused on the workbench, not just theory. We cover handheld laser welding basics, machine controls, joint prep and the habits that help maintain consistent welds across a team.

The session also includes a short safety section on laser class awareness, eye protection, fume extraction and safe access around the welding area. In busy workshops this matters because small gaps in routine often lead to poor results, damaged parts or avoidable injury.

  • Basic machine checks before the first weld
  • Correct stance, travel speed and torch handling
  • Material preparation and fit up
  • Shared safety rules for all operators

Safety Briefings for Shared Workshop Use

When more than one person uses the same equipment, safety has to be consistent. We show teams how to keep protective eyewear in use, how to control reflections on bright metal and how to manage the welding zone so people do not stand too close.

Fume extraction is also part of the discussion. Even in smaller shops, good extraction helps clear smoke and airborne particles, especially where work is done for long periods or where ventilation is limited. On sites affected by load-shedding, we also talk through safe shutdown steps and what to do before power returns.

  • Laser safety rules for the whole team
  • Eye protection and face coverage for each operator
  • Fume control and general ventilation checks
  • Safe stopping points during interruptions

Starter Kit Setup and First Job Practice

If your team is starting with a new machine, we can include starter kit setup as part of the session. That usually means checking the torch, cables, consumables and cleaning tools, then making sure the workspace is ready for practical use. We keep the setup generic and suitable for a proper workshop environment.

After that we move into practice plans. This is where the team works through short test runs, learns how to set a rhythm and reviews what a good weld should look like on the material being used. Pieter van der Merwe leads the welding instruction and Brandon Naidoo supports the workshop setup side, so the session stays practical from the first minute.

Supervisor Coaching and Workflow Advice

Team Training is often most useful when the supervisor is included. We can show how to assign tasks, check quality and keep the process moving when different staff members take turns on the machine. That helps reduce rework and makes it easier to keep records straight.

We also offer workflow advice for workshops that need a simple routine for job intake, machine checks and post weld inspection. In coastal areas like Durban and Cape Town, this can include extra care around storage, moisture and clean down routines, while Gauteng shops often want better control of dust and daily maintenance.

  • Supervisor coaching for day to day oversight
  • Quality walkthroughs after practice or live work
  • Consumables planning for regular use
  • Refresher visits when new staff join

How to Plan Your Session Before We Arrive

A good team session starts with a clear brief. Tell us what your workshop does, how many people will attend and whether the focus is training, setup or a refresh. Naledi Khumalo coordinates bookings, while Anele Dlamini checks the safety side and the training pack so the session starts with the right structure.

Please have the work area ready, with basic power access, clear floor space and the material samples you want to use. If you are based in Boksburg or elsewhere on the East Rand, we can keep the session close to your normal workflow and help your staff build confidence without wasting time.

  • Share your team size and experience level
  • Choose the main job type you want to cover
  • Prepare the workshop and the sample material
  • Use the enquiry form on our contact page to book in
