Led from Boksburg with a practical approach
LaserWelder Training is led from our Boksburg base by Mpho Johannes Maseko, who keeps the business anchored in real workshop needs rather than theory alone. Since 2012, the focus has been on helping beginners, supervisors and workshop teams learn handheld laser welding in a way that suits South African conditions, from busy Gauteng sites to coastal workshops where humidity can affect stored equipment. Mpho works closely with the rest of the team to make sure each course, site visit and starter kit recommendation has a clear purpose.
He is also the person who helps keep the service range practical, whether a client needs training in Johannesburg, a refresher visit in Pretoria, or starter kit advice for a workshop in Durban or Cape Town. The aim is simple: give people the knowledge to work safely, keep equipment organised and build confidence with each weld.
Training delivery that stays hands-on
Naledi Khumalo, our Training Coordinator, handles the flow of each course so learners know what to expect before they arrive. She helps plan bookings, course schedules, learner packs and the training document pack, and she keeps an eye on the practical details that can make or break a training day. If a group needs a clear plan for practice time, repeat demonstrations or a site readiness check before training, Naledi is often the one making sure it happens.
She also helps tailor support for different groups, from individual learners to workshop teams. Her work is especially useful when a business needs operator inductions, supervisor coaching or workflow advice, because she keeps the training side organised and the follow-up easy to understand.
- Course scheduling and learner coordination
- Training document pack preparation
- Support for site readiness checks and inductions
- Follow-up planning for refreshers and practice plans
Welding instruction with a shop-floor mindset
Pieter van der Merwe is our Lead Welding Instructor and the person most learners meet when the torch comes out. He teaches handheld laser welding with a strong focus on control, joint preparation, travel speed and repeatable results. Pieter explains the difference between good technique and rushed work, and he keeps the sessions grounded in what matters at the bench, not just in the classroom.
Safety is part of every lesson. Pieter covers laser class awareness, proper eye protection, safe handling of reflective surfaces and the need for fume extraction when welding metals that give off vapour or fine particles. He also shows learners how starter kits can be set up for practical use, and where common mistakes creep in when a workshop starts too quickly without a proper practice plan.
Safety and compliance that cannot be skipped
Anele Dlamini, our Safety and Compliance Officer, keeps the training aligned with safe working practice. Her role includes safety briefings, operator inductions and clear guidance on how to manage the welding area, especially where multiple people are working around the same equipment. She pays attention to laser class information, shielding, access control and the small things that protect people when a workshop is busy.
Anele also advises on fume extraction, housekeeping and the proper use of protective eyewear. In workshops where power cuts and load-shedding are part of the day, she helps teams think ahead about what can be checked, stored or secured before the next run. Her work supports both learning and day-to-day control, which helps reduce avoidable mistakes.
- Safety briefings for learners and supervisors
- Laser class awareness and eye protection guidance
- Fume extraction and workspace control checks
- Practical advice for load-shedding interruptions
Starter kits and technical support that keep moving
Kagiso Molefe looks after starter kit sales and helps learners choose equipment that makes sense for the work they want to do. He explains what belongs in a basic starter kit, how to set it up and what should be kept as spare consumables so a workshop does not stall halfway through a job. Kagiso is especially helpful for businesses that want a clear path from training to first use, without wasting money on items they will not need straight away.
Lerato Mokoena is our Technical Support Advisor, and she steps in when learners need help after the course, whether it is a setup query, a technique question or guidance on practice plans. Brandon Naidoo supports the workshop side with hands-on help for starter kit setup, consumables planning and practical organisation in the training space. Together, they make sure the learning does not end when the session does.
They also assist with refresher visits, technical help and workflow advice for workshops across South Africa, including East Rand and Gauteng training requests.
A team built for learners and workshops
What makes this group work is the way each person keeps to their role while still supporting the others. Mpho sets the direction, Naledi keeps the training organised, Pieter teaches the welding, Anele keeps safety in front, Kagiso helps with starter kit choices, Lerato supports the technical side and Brandon keeps the workshop practical. That mix matters when learners need more than a one-day lesson and want to walk away with real confidence.
For businesses, the team can assist with site readiness checks, supervisor coaching, refresher visits and training document packs. For individual learners, the focus is on skill, safety and a certificate of completion from LaserWelder Training once the course is finished. It is a straightforward process, built around clear instruction and steady support, not guesswork.
- Hands-on training for beginners and experienced operators
- Support for workshops in Boksburg, Johannesburg, Pretoria, Durban, Cape Town and Polokwane
- Practical advice for safety, setup and workflow
- Certificate of completion issued by LaserWelder Training
